CRI Article - Gina Mohammed PDF Print E-mail

Gina Mohammed wasn’t supposed to be a scientist—at least, according to a teacher who gave her a lowly ‘D’ grade in her first biology class at age 13. ‘Obviously, she will never be a biologist,’ he wrote on her report card.

However, when Gina got to high school, a different science teacher with an infectious enthusiasm made it all seem such fun. Her marks morphed into ‘A’s, paving the way for this ‘unlikely biologist’ to end up doing exactly that for a living—and loving it!

Python Programming PDF Print E-mail

Last night I spent about 1 hour trying to go through a whole bunch of websites that I bookmarked for Python programming.  I need to start to design a programming course for my son, who is seven years old, so he can learn how to program.  Either I will use Python or another programming language (Squeak, Alice) for children.

I only managed to go over about three websites that gave tips and tricks to Python.  It was a lot of work to organize notes even from six pages of programming.  Hopefully, I will develop a good course or guideline for my son for him to explore programming as a desire of his, because he is a boy attracted to many things, and one of them is computers.

I really enjoyed OCHEC this year.  Karen and I spent most of the time listening to speakers and volunteering, but we did not spend much time looking at the vendors.  I am looking forward to getting the recorded mp3s from OCHEC and also to 2011 to see what topics will be there next year.

Here is the look of Samuel's Dragon.  I completed all the coloring in for him so he could have a really nice dragon to put on a box or to have it framed.  We will check in with our mentors to see if we need to do anything else to the dragon itself before we stain the background, and put a seal on the leather.  I think this dragon looks great!
